This question is a little complicated in so far as the W.O. do not appear to have had anything to do with the original arrangement beyond perhaps saying that it was impossible to supply the guns and ammunitior
On the to the Union Government from this country. other hand it seems desirable that effect should be given to the proposal of the Governor to replace the guns and ammunition in question by Lewis guns and Mark VII ammunition: and if this is done the supply of the arme and ammunition will have to be arranged by the War Office. Again, so far as I know, the War Office have since the Armistice been dealing direct with the Dominions on the whole question of arms and equipment required by the different Governments for their post-war establishments and in settling questions of payment I believe the arms supplied during the war have been taken into account. It is quite possible therefore (though I have been unable to ascertain at the W.0. for certain one way or the other) that the fact of the arms and ammunition mentioned above being the property of the Hong Kong Government may have been overlooked. Assuming that this is so it is quite possible the W.0. will be ready to replace them with
